Additionally, oftentimes a great way to catch Mahi-Mahi is to troll a planer lure or bait deep in your spread. The larger Mahi typically hang out by themselves beneath the school fish, resulting in success when using a planer. Slow trolling a planer for Wahoo is one of the most effective techniques there is. Pull a ballyhoo, or heavier artificial bait in the right area and get ready for a bite! A fishing planer can be used off of a hand line, tied to a cleat; or inline on a planer rod set-up. Purchased these and first trip out boated several very nice Hybrids. The fish were in 5-7lb range. The bait falls fast and the hooks are very sharp for solid hook ups.
