Diamond Hollow Core Braid Gen III - Built for Splicing

Diamond Hollow Core Braid Gen III uses a 16-carrier weave that maintains a round, open profile for clean leader splices. The hollow construction lets you thread monofilament or fluorocarbon leaders directly into the braid, creating a seamless knot-free connection that passes through rod guides without a hitch. Available from 60lb to 200lb test in 600yd and 1500yd spools.
  • 16-carrier weave holds shape under pressure
  • Splice-friendly hollow core for knot-free leader connections
  • Smaller diameter per pound test than solid braids
  • Color-fast in White, Blue, and Orange
  • 600yd and 1500yd spool options

Learn about fishing leaders and when to use them

Why Hollow Core Changes Your Leader Game

A spliced hollow core connection is the strongest, slimmest way to attach a leader to braided line. No wind knot, no bulky connection catching in your guides, no weak point at the join. You thread 4-6 feet of leader material inside the braid, and the harder a fish pulls, the tighter the braid grips. The result is a connection that tests at nearly 100% of the braid's rated strength. That matters when a wahoo hits at speed or a tuna sounds straight down.

Diamond's Gen III version improved on earlier generations with tighter carrier tolerances and better dye retention. The 16-carrier construction keeps the braid round and easy to open for splicing, even after months of use on a reel. If you fish offshore and connect leaders regularly, hollow core braid paired with a proper splice eliminates the weakest link in your system.

16-Carrier Weave Construction

Sixteen carriers create a rounder, more consistent braid profile compared to 8 or 12-carrier designs. The extra carriers distribute load more evenly, which means the braid holds its shape under heavy drag. It also keeps the hollow center open and accessible for splicing, even after repeated use and compression on a reel.

Splice-Ready Hollow Core Design

The whole point of hollow core braid is the splice. Using a splicing needle, you thread your leader material (mono or fluoro) inside the braid for 4-6 feet. Under tension, the braid compresses around the leader and locks it in place. No knot needed. This connection runs through guides smoothly and maintains close to full line strength.

Smaller Diameter, More Capacity

Gen III braid runs thinner per pound test than most competing hollow cores. The 80lb test measures just 0.41mm in diameter. That means more line on your reel at the same test rating, which matters for deep dropping, kite fishing, or any application where you need yardage and strength together.

How to Splice a Leader into Diamond Hollow Core Braid

1. Cut a clean end on your hollow core braid using sharp scissors or a heated braid cutter like the /products/hi-seas-wildfire-braid-cutter

2. Insert a splicing needle into the hollow core about 4-6 feet from the end

3. Thread your mono or fluorocarbon leader onto the needle and pull it through the braid

4. Exit the needle out the side of the braid, leaving the leader seated inside

5. Trim the tag end of the braid and work the splice back and forth to settle it

6. Test the splice by pulling firmly from both ends before fishing - it should hold at near full line strength

What is the advantage of hollow core braid over solid braid? +
Hollow core braid lets you splice leaders directly into the line, creating a knot-free connection that runs through rod guides smoothly and holds near 100% of rated line strength. Solid braid requires knots or crimps for leader connections, which are bulkier and typically weaker. See our fishing leaders FAQ for more on leader connections.
What pound test should I use for offshore trolling? +
Most offshore trolling setups run 80lb or 130lb hollow core. Use 80lb for wahoo, mahi, and smaller tuna. Step up to 130lb for yellowfin, bluefin, and marlin. Match your braid test to your reel's drag capacity and your target species. Check our wahoo fishing guide for species-specific line recommendations.
How do I cut hollow core braid cleanly? +
Use a heated braid cutter like the Hi-Seas Wildfire Braid Cutter to melt and seal the end in one step. Alternatively, the Gerber Neat Freak Braid Shears cut braid cleanly with their micro-serrated blades.
What is the diameter of 80lb Diamond Hollow Core Gen III? +
The 80lb test measures 0.41mm in diameter. For reference, 60lb is 0.36mm, 100lb is 0.47mm, and 130lb is 0.52mm. These are thinner than most competing hollow cores at the same test ratings.
Can I use hollow core braid for bottom fishing? +
Yes, hollow core works well for bottom fishing and deep dropping. The thin diameter cuts through current better than thicker lines, and you can splice heavy fluorocarbon leaders for abrasion resistance near the bottom. Our line comparison guide covers when to use each line type.
What leader material works best for splicing into hollow core? +
Both monofilament and fluorocarbon leaders splice well into hollow core braid. Use fluorocarbon like Hi-Seas Fluorocarbon when you need near-invisible leaders in clear water, or monofilament when you want more stretch and shock absorption. Leader test should generally be close to your braid's rated strength.
