Squidnation Rubber Bullet - Compact Ballyhoo Enhancer

The Squidnation Rubber Bullet is a compact bait enhancer designed to ride in front of your ballyhoo. The 11mm conical head adds color and a subtle pop to your bait without overwhelming the natural presentation. It tracks better than the Slammer Chugger in rough seas while still making enough noise in calm water to draw fish in. The small diameter will not interfere with circle hook rotation, making it ideal for billfish setups.
  • 11mm conical head for subtle splash and color
  • 3-1/2 inch overall length
  • Tracks true in rough conditions
  • Fits 1/4 oz egg weight in the head for adjustable depth
  • Works with 7/0 to 9/0 circle hooks

Why the Rubber Bullet Outperforms Larger Chugger Heads

Sometimes a big chugger head is too much. Wary billfish and tuna will follow a large chugger to the transom but refuse to eat. The Rubber Bullet solves this with a minimal profile that adds just enough color and action without spooking fish. The 11mm head is narrower than the gap on a standard 7/0-9/0 circle hook, so the hook still rotates and sets properly.

The conical shape tracks straight even in rough water where flat-head chuggers tend to jump and skip. You can also drop a 1/4 oz egg weight into the head to fine-tune how deep your ballyhoo swims. Works great behind a Slammer Chugger for variety, or run it alongside the Big Chugger and Phat Daddy Squids in a full Squidnation spread.

Conical Head Design

The bullet shape cuts through chop cleanly while creating a small pop and bubble trail. It tracks straight where cupped heads tend to spin or jump in rough seas. Consistent tracking means your bait stays in the strike zone longer.

Circle Hook Compatible

At 11mm, the head diameter is smaller than the gap on standard 7/0-9/0 circle hooks. The hook rotates freely past the lure head and sets in the jaw corner. No interference with the hookset.

Internal Weight Slot

Drop a 1/4 oz egg weight into the head to make your ballyhoo swim deeper. Remove the weight for surface presentations. This adjustability lets you fine-tune bait depth without changing your rigging.

How to Rig the Squidnation Rubber Bullet

1. Thread your leader through the Rubber Bullet from tail to nose

2. Optional: drop a 1/4 oz egg weight into the head cavity for deeper swimming

3. Rig your ballyhoo on the hook behind the bullet

4. Position the bullet snug against the ballyhoo's head

5. Deploy 40-80 feet behind the boat at 5-8 knots

6. Watch for the bullet to track straight with a subtle pop on the surface

What is the difference between the Rubber Bullet and the Slammer Chugger? +
The Rubber Bullet has a conical head that tracks better in rough seas. The Slammer Chugger has a cupped head for more splash in calm water. Both are small bait enhancers.
Will this work with circle hooks? +
Yes. The 11mm head is narrower than the gap on 7/0-9/0 circle hooks, so it does not block the hook rotation. Learn more in our circle hooks vs J hooks guide.
What fish does this target? +
Sailfish, white marlin, blue marlin, mahi, tuna, and wahoo. Any species you would troll ballyhoo for. Read our sailfish fishing guide for more on ballyhoo spreads.
How many should I buy? +
The 10-pack is the best value if you troll regularly. You will go through them as bait washes off and rigs need replacing. Stock 2-3 colors. Browse our trolling lure guide for color selection tips.
Can I use an egg weight inside the head? +
Yes. A 1/4 oz egg weight fits inside the head cavity and makes your ballyhoo swim deeper. Remove it for surface presentations. See our ballyhoo rigging guide for depth adjustment tips.
What other Squidnation products pair well with the Rubber Bullet? +
Run it alongside Slammer Chuggers and the Big Chugger for variety. Back them with 9-inch Squids or 12-inch Squids on a dredge.
