The Simplest Way to Store Leaders and Fish Handlines

The Cuban YoYo handline reel is the tool offshore fishermen have used for decades to keep long leaders organized and tangle-free. Made in the USA by Gator Bucket from high impact plastic, these reels are practically indestructible and weigh almost nothing. Wind your 30-foot bridle leaders, planer setups, or kite lines onto the reel, toss it in your bag, and pull it out ready to fish. No tangles, no kinks, no wasted time on the water. Available in 6" and 9" sizes starting at $9.99.
  • High impact plastic construction, built in the USA by Gator Bucket
  • 6" and 9" sizes for different leader lengths and line capacities
  • Stores bridle leaders, planer rigs, and kite lines tangle-free
  • Works as a traditional Cuban YoYo handline for dock and shore fishing
  • Stackable and flat-packing for organized tackle storage

Stop Tangling Leaders, Start Fishing

You spent 20 minutes tying a perfect 30-foot bridle leader. You coiled it carefully, dropped it in your tackle bag, and drove to the ramp. Now it looks like a bird's nest. The Cuban YoYo reel fixes this permanently. Wind your leader onto the reel, snap it in place, and it comes off clean every single time.

Offshore guys running planer spreads keep 4-6 of these loaded and ready. Kite fishermen wind their dropback leaders on them. Shore fishermen use them as actual handline reels to catch snapper off the dock. At under $11 for the large size, there is zero reason to keep fighting tangled leaders.

High Impact Plastic, Made in USA

Gator Bucket builds these in the USA from high impact plastic that handles UV exposure, saltwater, and getting tossed around in a tackle bag. They will not crack when you drop them on the deck and they will not warp sitting in a hot truck.

Two Sizes for Different Jobs

The 6" reel ($9.99) handles standard leaders up to about 20 feet of heavy mono. The 9" reel ($10.99) is built for longer bridle leaders, full planer setups, and kite lines where you need more capacity.

One Reel Does It All

Originally built for Cuban-style handline fishing, these reels became the go-to storage solution for every type of pre-rigged leader. Bridle leaders for planer fishing, dropback leaders for kite setups, trolling leaders for your spread, or use it the old-school way as an actual handline reel.

How to Use a Cuban YoYo Reel

1. Hold the reel in one hand and tie your leader's loop or swivel end to one of the notches on the reel edge

2. Wind the leader onto the reel in even wraps, keeping light tension so the mono lays flat without overlapping

3. Tuck the tag end (hook or snap swivel) into a notch on the reel edge to lock everything in place

4. To deploy, pull the tag end free, hold the reel in your palm, and let the leader unwind cleanly as you feed it out

Can I actually fish with a Cuban YoYo reel as a handline? +
That is what they were originally built for. Wind your line on, tie on a hook and sinker, and fish off a dock, bridge, or seawall. We wrote a full guide: Cuban YoYo Fishing: A Simplified Approach.
How do I store planer bridles on a Cuban YoYo reel? +
Wind the bridle leader onto the 9" reel starting from the snap swivel end, keeping even tension. Tuck the terminal end into a notch to lock it. Learn the full planer bridle system: How to Inline Planer Fish.
How durable are these reels? +
Extremely. Gator Bucket makes them from high impact plastic in the USA. They handle drops, UV exposure, and saltwater spray. We have seen guys use the same reels for years of offshore fishing. See our fishing leader FAQ for more gear tips.
Can I use a Cuban YoYo reel for kite fishing leaders? +
Yes, and kite fishermen love them for exactly this. Wind your dropback leaders onto the 9" reel and they deploy tangle-free every time. Read our full Kite Fishing Guide for the complete setup.

Yes. Our Bridle and Leader Reel comes with a pre-tied bridle leader already wound on the reel, ready to clip onto your planer or outrigger.
What material is the Cuban YoYo reel made from? +
High impact plastic, manufactured by Gator Bucket in the USA. Lightweight enough to stack a dozen in your bag, tough enough to survive years of saltwater use. For more on rigging leaders, check our Fishing Leader FAQ.
