Sharp Hooks Catch More Fish
A dull hook point bounces off a fish's mouth. A sharp hook penetrates on contact. The difference between a hookup and a missed bite often comes down to hook sharpness. The Rapala RHKS-1 makes it easy to maintain sharp points all day long.
The retractable design means the sharpening stones are protected when not in use. Pull them out, give the hook point a few strokes, retract, and get back to fishing. The neck lanyard keeps the sharpener within reach at all times. No digging through tackle bags, no searching pockets.

Aluminum Oxide Stones
Fine grit aluminum oxide is the standard for hook sharpening. It removes just enough material to restore a needle point without taking off too much. A few light strokes bring any hook back to sharp.
Retractable Design
The stones retract into the body of the sharpener when not in use. This protects the sharpening surface from damage and keeps the stones clean. Pull to extend, release to retract.
Neck Lanyard
Hang the sharpener around your neck for instant access. No pockets to dig through, no tackle bags to open. The sharpener is right there when you tie on a new hook or after a missed strike.
How to Sharpen Hooks with the RHKS-1
1. Pull the aluminum oxide stones out from the retractable housing
2. Hold the hook firmly with pliers or by the shank
3. Stroke the stone toward the hook point at a shallow angle
4. Make 3-5 light passes on each side of the point
5. Test sharpness by dragging the point across your thumbnail
6. Retract the stones and continue fishing

What type of hooks can I sharpen? +
All types: circle hooks, J-hooks, treble hooks, and live bait hooks. The fine aluminum oxide stones work on any hook size. Check our hook size chart for help choosing the right hooks.
How do I know if my hook needs sharpening? +
Drag the hook point across your thumbnail. A sharp hook digs in immediately. A dull hook slides across the surface. If it slides, sharpen it. Read more in our hook guide.
Is this for hooks only or knives too? +
The fine grit stones are optimized for hook points. For knife sharpening, use the Rapala 2 Stage Ceramic Sharpener which has both coarse and fine surfaces.
How long do the stones last? +
Aluminum oxide stones last a long time with normal use. Sharpening hooks removes minimal material from both the hook and the stone. One unit should last multiple seasons.
Can I sharpen circle hooks? +
Yes. Circle hooks benefit from touch-up sharpening just like J-hooks. Use light strokes toward the point. Read our circle hook guide for proper technique.
What other hook-related products do you carry? +
We carry a full range of hooks, rigs, and terminal tackle. Browse our hooks collection and check out our rigging guide for setup tips.
