Diamond Wind On Leader in Mono or Fluorocarbon

Diamond Wind On Leaders combine top-quality monofilament or fluorocarbon with Dyneema loop connections for a clean, reliable leader system. The wind-on design eliminates the knot-to-swivel connection that can hang up in rod guides. Your leader winds smoothly onto the reel, giving you more control at the boat during the final stages of the fight.
    • Extra Hard Mono: 150, 220, 300, 400, 530 lb
    • Fluorocarbon: 90, 130, 150, 180, 220 lb
    • Dyneema loop for secure loop-to-loop connection
    • Eliminates guide hang-ups at the boat

Wind It On, Skip the Hassle

Traditional long leaders create a problem at the boat. The swivel-to-main-line connection hits your rod tip and stops. You either have to hand-wrap the leader or risk a break-off during the critical last moments of the fight. Wind on leaders solve this completely.

The Dyneema loop spliced into the leader connects to your main line with a loop-to-loop. The transition point passes through your guides smoothly, so you can reel the fish all the way to the rod tip. Choose extra hard mono for maximum abrasion resistance or fluorocarbon for stealth. Both materials are the top of Diamond's line.

Smooth Guide Transition

The spliced connection between Dyneema and leader material is slim enough to pass through rod guides without catching. You reel the entire leader onto the spool and fight the fish on the rod, not by hand-wrapping.

Mono or Fluorocarbon Choice

Extra Hard Mono offers maximum abrasion resistance for species near structure. Fluorocarbon provides near-invisibility for leader-shy fish. Both use the same Dyneema loop system.

Dyneema Loop Strength

The Dyneema loop is stronger than the leader material itself. The loop-to-loop connection will not be the failure point. Quick to rig and quick to replace if the leader gets chewed up.

How to Rig a Wind On Leader

  1. Create a loop in your main line (braid or hollow core)
  2. Connect the Dyneema loop to your main line loop-to-loop
  3. Wind the leader onto the reel to verify smooth guide passage
  4. Attach your hook, swivel, or lure to the terminal end
  5. Test the system by pulling firmly before deploying

Mono or fluorocarbon wind on? +
Mono for maximum abrasion resistance near structure and wrecks. Fluorocarbon for stealth when targeting leader-shy species in clear water. Our line comparison guide covers the tradeoffs.
What pound test for tuna? +
130-220 lb fluorocarbon for yellowfin. 300-530 lb mono for giant bluefin. Match to your main line and reel capacity. Our tuna guide has complete rigging specs.
How do I connect a wind on to my main line? +
Loop-to-loop connection. Create a loop in your braid or hollow core, then interlock it with the Dyneema loop on the wind on. Fast, strong, and no knots to fail. Our knot guide covers the method.
What length are these leaders? +
Standard length varies by test weight. They are designed to be IGFA-compliant where applicable. For specific swordfish lengths (150 ft), see our Diamond Swordfish Wind On. Browse our leader collection.
Why use a wind on instead of a regular leader? +
Wind ons pass through your rod guides, letting you fight the fish on the rod instead of hand-wrapping. This is safer, reduces break-offs at the boat, and makes releases faster. See our leader FAQ.
How often should I replace wind on leaders? +
Inspect before each trip. Replace when you see abrasion, nicks, or discoloration. A fresh leader is cheap insurance against losing a trophy fish. Stock up from our leader collection.
