Stainless Steel Cable - Buy by the Foot

Buy 304 stainless steel cable by the foot and save versus full spool prices. Three sizes cover everything from ballyhoo rigs to heavy dredge builds. The 3/64 inch (270lb) handles trolling baits, the 1/16 inch (480lb) runs through trolling weights and hard baits, and the 3/32 inch (920lb) is built for dredges and stiff rigs. Starting at $1.00 per foot.

Buy the Length You Need, Not the Whole Spool

A full spool of stainless cable can run $40 to $100 depending on the size. If you only need 10 feet for a dredge build or a few leaders, that is a lot of money sitting in a drawer. Buying by the foot means you get exactly what your project requires at a fraction of the cost.

This is 304 stainless steel, the same grade used in marine hardware and rigging. The 7x7 construction in the smaller sizes gives you flexibility for bait rigs, while the 7x19 in the 3/32 inch provides the extra flex needed for longer dredge arms and stiff rig hooksets. All three sizes crimp cleanly with standard cable crimps.

3/64 Inch - 270lb Trolling Cable

The 7x7 construction at 3/64 inch is rated for 270 pounds. This is the go-to size for rigging ballyhoo, building trolling leaders, and any application where you need wire leader strength with some flexibility.

1/16 Inch - 480lb Utility Cable

The 1/16 inch 7x7 cable at 480lb is the workhorse. Run it through thru-hole trolling weights, rig hard baits, or build heavy leaders for toothy fish. The diameter fits standard cable sleeves and crimps.

3/32 Inch - 920lb Dredge Cable

The heavy 7x19 cable at 920lb is made for dredge builds and stiff rig hooksets. The 19-strand construction stays flexible enough to work with, while the 920lb rating handles the drag loads of a fully deployed dredge at trolling speed.

How to Crimp Stainless Steel Cable

1. Cut the cable to length using a quality cable cutter - not pliers or side cutters

2. Slide the appropriately sized cable sleeve onto the cable

3. Thread the cable through your thimble, swivel, or connection point

4. Loop the cable back through the sleeve

5. Crimp the sleeve using a proper cable crimper - squeeze firmly in two spots

6. Tug test the connection before fishing - a properly crimped sleeve holds the full cable rating

What size cable do I need for ballyhoo rigs? +
The 3/64 inch (270lb) is the standard choice for rigging ballyhoo and other trolling baits. It is flexible enough to work with and strong enough to handle offshore fish. See our ballyhoo rigging guide for the full setup.
What cable do I need for building a dredge? +
Use the 3/32 inch (920lb) cable for dredge arms and mainlines. The 920lb rating handles the drag load of a fully deployed dredge at trolling speed. Our dredge rigging guide walks through the full build.
Is this cable 304 or 316 stainless? +
This is 304 stainless steel. 304 provides excellent corrosion resistance for fishing applications and is the standard grade for fishing cable. Rinse with fresh water after each trip. Browse our terminal tackle for crimps and sleeves.
What crimps do I need for this cable? +
Use cable sleeves (oval crimps) sized to your cable diameter. 3/64 inch cable uses size A or 1 sleeves. 1/16 inch uses size B or 2. 3/32 inch uses size C or 3. Our crimping guide covers sizing in detail.
How much cable do I need for a stiff rig? +
Most stiff rig hooksets use 12-18 inches of cable per rig. Order 2-3 feet if you are building one, or 10+ feet if you are building a batch. See our pre-made stiff rig hooksets if you want them ready to fish.
Can I use this cable for wahoo leaders? +
Yes. The 3/64 inch cable at 270lb is popular for wahoo leaders because it resists their teeth better than mono or fluoro. Build leaders with cable crimps for a clean, reliable connection. Our wahoo fishing guide covers leader setups.
