The Eyes Have It

Redfish, trout, and flounder are sight feeders that zero in on eyes. A jig head with big, visible eyes gets more strikes than a plain painted head. These ZMan Redfish Eye Jig Heads put that 3D eye right where fish are looking - at the front of the bait, facing forward. That is not a marketing detail. It is the reason anglers who switch to eye-forward jigs see an immediate bump in hookups.

The 30-degree hook angle is the other key feature. Standard 90-degree jig heads ride with the hook pointed straight up, which works fine over sand but hangs up on oyster bars, rocks, and structure. The 30-degree angle tucks the hook closer to the body and lets the jig slide over obstacles that would snag a standard head. Pair these with your favorite ZMan soft plastic and you have an inshore rig that fishes clean in the gnarliest spots.

30-Degree Hook Angle

The angled hook positions the point closer to the jig body instead of sticking straight up. This reduces hangups on oyster bars, rocks, dock pilings, and other structure where inshore fish live. You spend more time fishing and less time re-rigging.

Dual Keeper Spikes

Two barbed keeper spikes grip your soft plastic from both sides. Standard single-keeper jigs let the plastic slide down after a few fish or hard casts. The dual keeper holds ZMan ElaZtech and other soft plastics firmly in place so your bait stays rigged correctly all day.

4/0 Black Nickel Mustad Hook

The Mustad hook is sharp out of the package and holds its point through a full day of fishing. Black nickel finish resists corrosion in saltwater. The 4/0 size is ideal for most inshore species including redfish, trout, flounder, and snook on soft plastics in the 3-5 inch range.

How to Fish Redfish Eye Jig Heads

1. Thread your soft plastic onto the jig head by inserting the hook point through the nose and out the back at the right spot for a straight hang

2. Make sure the dual keeper spikes are embedded in the plastic body for a secure hold

3. Cast toward structure - oyster bars, dock pilings, grass edges, or drop-offs

4. Let the jig sink to the bottom and count down to find the depth fish are holding

5. Work it with a slow hop-hop-pause retrieve, keeping contact with the bottom

6. Set the hook on the thump - redfish and trout usually hit on the fall or the pause

What soft plastics work best with these jig heads? +
ZMan ElaZtech paddletails in the 3-5 inch range are the most popular match. Shrimp imitations and jerk baits also work well. The dual keeper spikes hold most soft plastic brands. See our saltwater lure guide for soft plastic options.
Should I use 3/16 oz or 1/4 oz? +
Use 3/16 oz in shallow water under 3 feet or when you want a slower fall rate. Go with 1/4 oz in deeper water, stronger current, or when fish want a faster presentation. Our jigging guide covers weight selection in detail.
What species can I catch with these? +
Redfish, speckled trout, flounder, black drum, snook, tarpon, and sea bass all eat soft plastics on jig heads. The 4/0 hook handles fish up to 30+ pounds. Check our redfish guide for species-specific tactics.
Why does the 30-degree angle matter? +
A 30-degree hook angle positions the point closer to the jig body, reducing snags on oyster bars, rocks, and structure. Standard 90-degree heads hang up constantly in that kind of cover. The angle also puts the eye at the front of the jig. Read our trout fishing guide for more on fishing structure.
Are these weedless? +
Not weedless by design, but the 30-degree angle helps them slide through grass better than standard jig heads. For heavy grass, you may want a dedicated weedless jig head. Our redfish guide covers rigging for grassy flats.
What colors work best for redfish? +
Gold and Red are top sellers for redfish. Chartreuse stands out in stained water. Glow works well for low-light conditions like dawn, dusk, or murky water. Pearl is a good all-around option. See our sight casting guide for color selection tips.
