Rapala X-Rap SubWalk 7 Saltwater

The X-Rap SubWalk 7 brings the walk-the-dog action below the surface. This compact 2-3/4 inch lure glides and drops just under the top, reaching fish that will not commit to a surface lure. The glide-and-drop technique triggers strikes from snook, speckled trout, bluefish, and striped bass. VMC Coastal Black inline single hooks are built for salt. Also available in the larger SubWalk 9 and the Twitchin' Minnow for a different action.
    • Subsurface walk-the-dog glide and drop
    • VMC Coastal Black inline single hooks
    • Compact 2-3/4 inch profile for finicky fish
    • Holographic 3D eyes and translucent body

Walk the Dog Below the Surface

Sometimes fish are feeding just below the surface but refuse to break the top. The SubWalk 7 solves that problem. Fish it with the same rhythmic twitch you would use for a topwater walker, but the lure glides side to side 1-2 feet under the surface. The slow drop on the pause gives fish a chance to track and strike without having to commit to a full surface blow-up.

The compact 2-3/4 inch body matches small baitfish profiles and works well on light spinning tackle. VMC Coastal Black inline single hooks are easier on the fish for clean releases and reduce snags compared to treble hooks. The holographic 3D eyes and translucent body maintain the X-Rap flash that triggers strikes.

Subsurface Glide Action

The SubWalk 7 glides side to side 1-2 feet below the surface on a twitch retrieve. This puts the lure in front of fish that are feeding just under the top without breaking the surface tension.

VMC Inline Single Hooks

Inline single hooks reduce snags on structure and are easier on fish for catch-and-release fishing. The VMC Coastal Black finish resists corrosion in saltwater applications.

Compact Profile

At 2-3/4 inches, the SubWalk 7 matches small baitfish like glass minnows, bay anchovies, and juvenile pilchards. The smaller profile works when fish are refusing larger presentations.

How to Fish the X-Rap SubWalk 7

  1. Cast past your target on light spinning tackle
  2. Let the lure sink 1-2 feet below the surface
  3. Twitch your rod tip rhythmically like walking the dog
  4. The lure glides side to side underwater
  5. Pause and let it drop to trigger following fish
  6. Most strikes come on the glide or the drop

SubWalk 7 vs SubWalk 9? +
The SubWalk 7 is 2-3/4 inches for finicky fish and smaller bait. The SubWalk 9 is 3-1/2 inches for bigger water. Both have the same subsurface walk action.
How is the SubWalk different from a topwater walker? +
Topwater walkers stay on the surface. The SubWalk glides 1-2 feet below the surface, reaching fish that will not break the top. Our lure guide explains the differences.
What species hit the SubWalk 7? +
Snook, speckled trout, bluefish, striped bass, and redfish. Any inshore predator that feeds in the top 2 feet. Our snook guide covers tactics.
Why inline single hooks? +
Inline singles snag less on structure, hook fish more cleanly, and make for easier releases. They are a better choice for catch-and-release fishing. See our hook guide.
What rod setup for the SubWalk? +
A 6.5-7 foot medium-light spinning rod with a 2500 reel and 8-12 lb braid with a 15-20 lb fluoro leader. See our reel guide.
What other Rapala lures for inshore? +
The Skitter Walk 8 for topwater, the X-Rap 8 for diving, and the Twitchin' Minnow for subsurface. See our lure collection.
