The Saltwater Treble Hook

The 36329NP is Mustad's saltwater-optimized treble hook. The black nickel finish provides corrosion resistance that bronze trebles cannot match. The 4.3 Ultrapoint is sharper than the MTL-V1 point on the classic 3551, penetrating faster on strikes.

Seven sizes from #4 to 4/0 cover more ground than the 3551's smaller range. The larger sizes (1/0 through 4/0) fill the gap between standard replacement trebles and heavy-duty kingfish trebles. Use these for saltwater plug upgrades, dead bait stinger rigs, and any application where black nickel corrosion resistance matters.

4.3 Ultrapoint Technology

Mustad's advanced chemical sharpening produces a sharper point than standard MTL-V1 technology. The 4.3 designation indicates the optimized point angle for maximum penetration speed. Each of the three points is sharpened to the same standard.

Forged Ring Eye Construction

The forged construction compresses the steel for added strength. The ring eye allows easy attachment to split rings and lure hardware. Nor-Tempered steel adds strength beyond what the wire gauge suggests.

Seven Sizes Including Larger Hooks

#4 and #2 for small plugs and spinners. #1 and 1/0 for medium plugs and poppers. 2/0 and 3/0 for large plugs and dead bait rigs. 4/0 for the largest saltwater applications. The extended size range fills a gap that smaller trebles cannot cover.

How to Use Mustad 36329NP Treble Hooks

1. For lure upgrades: match the replacement size to the original hook (#4-1/0 typical)

2. Open the split ring with split ring pliers

3. Remove the old treble and thread on the new 36329NP

4. For dead bait rigs: tie or crimp the 2/0-4/0 sizes to your leader

5. Pin the treble through the bait behind the main hook

6. Check all three points for sharpness before each trip

36329NP vs 3551? +
The 36329NP has 4.3 Ultrapoint (sharper), black nickel finish (better corrosion resistance), and larger sizes up to 4/0. The 3551 is bronze with MTL-V1 points in smaller sizes (#2-#12). Choose the 36329NP for saltwater; the 3551 for freshwater or budget applications. Our treble guide covers both.
36329NP vs 3599C Kingfish? +
The 3599C is 4X strength in 25-packs for heavy-duty kingfish applications. The 36329NP is standard strength in 4-5 packs for general saltwater use. Use the 3599C when targeting king mackerel; the 36329NP for general replacement and medium-duty applications.
What size for plug replacement? +
Measure the gap width of the factory hook and match it. #4-#2 for small plugs. #1-1/0 for medium plugs. 2/0-3/0 for large plugs and poppers. Our treble hook size guide covers matching hooks to common lures.
Why black nickel over bronze? +
Black nickel provides significantly better corrosion resistance in saltwater. Bronze hooks develop rust spots that weaken the hook over time. For saltwater applications, black nickel is the better long-term value. Our treble guide covers finish selection.
Can I use the larger sizes for stinger rigs? +
Yes. The 2/0 through 4/0 sizes work well as stinger hook trebles on dead bait and slow-trolled rigs. For heavy-duty kingfish stingers, the 3599C 4X is the stronger option. Our king mackerel guide covers stinger rigs.
What is 4.3 Ultrapoint? +
Mustad's most advanced point technology. Chemical sharpening at the optimal 4.3 degree angle produces the fastest penetrating point in Mustad's treble hook lineup. Sharper than MTL-V1 points on standard models. Our hook guide covers Mustad point technologies.
