Gamakatsu Tuned Tuna Hook - Built for Stiff Rigs

The Gamakatsu Tuned Tuna Hook is purpose-built for stiff rig applications targeting tuna. The welded eye eliminates flex and will not open under load. The extremely sharp needle point penetrates on the strike without requiring a heavy hookset. Tin finish provides corrosion resistance and a smooth surface for bait rigging. Four sizes from 8/0 to 11/0 cover standard tuna stiff rig applications. Packs of 3 for 8/0 and 9/0, packs of 2 for 10/0 and 11/0.

Perfect measurements and weight

Used this differently than its intended design. I made raft oars counter balances from them. Previously used steel 4lb mounted on the exterior near the grips. These I was able to install into the shaft and at 5lbs was able to get the weight away from the grips. Both oars took about 30 minutes. Another bonus is the seller got the weights to me in 4 days vice 12 Amazon predicted.

Awesome bait for Hybrid striped Bass.

Purchased these and first trip out boated several very nice Hybrids. The fish were in 5-7lb range. The bait falls fast and the hooks are very sharp for solid hook ups. Glad I had an extra one because I gave it to my buddy in the boat and he immediately hooked up. These baits worked so well, I ordered several more. Stiff rigs demand a hook that holds its shape under extreme load. The Gamakatsu Tuned Tuna Hook delivers with a welded eye that cannot flex open during a fight. Standard brazed or stamped eyes can spread under the sustained pressure of a large tuna. The welded construction eliminates that failure point.

The needle point is the sharpest point geometry Gamakatsu produces. It penetrates on contact, which matters on stiff rigs where the hook needs to set as the fish inhales the bait. Tin finish adds durability without the weight of heavier coatings. At $21.75 per pack, these hooks are premium but built for premium applications.

Welded Eye

The welded eye is a solid ring that will not flex, spread, or open under pressure. Standard brazed eyes can fail under heavy drag loads. The weld holds through sustained tuna runs and allows maximum drag pressure without concern about eye failure.

Needle Point Geometry

The needle point is the sharpest point style Gamakatsu produces. It penetrates tissue on contact with minimal force. On stiff rigs where bait presentation is rigid, the instant penetration compensates for the limited movement in the rig design.

Four Sizes for Stiff Rig Applications

8/0 and 9/0 for medium tuna in the 30-80lb range. 10/0 and 11/0 for large yellowfin and bluefin over 100lbs. Pack sizes decrease with hook size: 3 per pack for 8/0 and 9/0, 2 per pack for 10/0 and 11/0.

How to Rig Gamakatsu Tuned Tuna Hooks on Stiff Rigs

Can I use this for trolling ballyhoo? +
