Duck Decoy Weights: Mushroom Style Anchors Built to Hold

Mushroom style duck decoy weights are the go-to anchor for waterfowl hunters who need their spread to stay put. The flat, rounded mushroom profile sits on the bottom and grips into mud, sand, and silt without snagging or dragging. That matters when wind picks up or current pushes through your setup. These weights are made in the USA from 100% reclaimed lead, so you get a dense, compact anchor that does the job without wasting new material. Available in 4oz, 5oz, 6oz, and 8oz to match your water conditions. Sold unrigged so you can run your own line, clips, and swivels exactly the way you like.
  • Mushroom profile grips mud and soft bottoms
  • 4oz, 5oz, 6oz, and 8oz sizes for any water depth or current
  • Made in USA from 100% reclaimed lead
  • Unrigged for custom line and clip setups
  • Individual or 10-pack pricing for full-spread rigging

Keep Your Decoys Where They Belong, Not Drifting Downwind

Nothing blows a hunt faster than a decoy spread that drifts out of position. Lightweight anchors slide across the bottom, decoys bunch up or float into your shooting lane, and birds flare before they ever commit. You spent the time scouting, setting up in the dark, and dialing in your spread. The last thing you need is the wind rearranging it.

Mushroom style decoy weights solve that problem. The wide, flat profile catches on mud, sand, and vegetation instead of skipping across it. Pick the right size for your conditions: 4oz for calm potholes and shallow water, 6oz or 8oz for rivers, open water, and windy days. They hold, plain and simple.

These are made right here in the USA from 100% reclaimed lead. Dense, compact, and built to last season after season. Buy them individually to fill gaps in your bag, or grab 10-packs when you are rigging a full spread. Starting at $1.79 each, outfitting a dozen decoys does not require a second mortgage.

Mushroom Profile That Actually Holds

The flat, rounded mushroom shape is not just tradition. It works. The wide base distributes weight across soft bottoms and grips into mud, silt, and sand. Unlike narrow or cylindrical weights that pull through, mushroom anchors stay planted. Available in 4oz, 5oz, 6oz, and 8oz so you can match the weight to your water. Light for potholes and flooded timber. Heavy for rivers and open water with wind chop.

Made in USA from 100% Reclaimed Lead

Every one of these weights is cast in the United States using 100% reclaimed lead. Same density and performance as virgin lead, but made from recycled material. You get a reliable, proven anchor without contributing to new lead production. Lead remains the standard for decoy weights because nothing else matches the density-to-size ratio at this price point.

Buy One or Buy a Bag, Your Call

Need two weights to replace the ones you lost last season? Buy them individually starting at $1.79. Rigging a full spread from scratch? Grab 10-packs and save. Every weight ships unrigged, which means you pick your own line type, length, clips, and attachment method. Run Texas rigs, wrap rigs, or whatever setup you trust. No pre-tied junk to cut off and redo.

How to Rig Duck Decoy Weights

1. Choose your weight size based on water conditions: 4-5oz for calm, shallow water and 6-8oz for current, wind, or deep water.

2. Cut your decoy anchor line to length. Most hunters use 4-8 feet of dark, braided nylon or tarred line depending on water depth.

3. Thread one end of the line through the eye of the mushroom weight and tie it off with a secure knot (an improved clinch knot or simple overhand loop works fine).

4. Attach the other end of the line to your decoy keel using a snap swivel, carabiner clip, or direct knot. Snap swivels make deployment and pickup faster.

5. Wrap the excess line around the decoy keel for tangle-free storage and transport. Deploy by tossing the decoy and letting the weight pull the line off the keel.

Use Duck Decoy Anchoring
What size duck decoy weight do I need? +
It depends on your water conditions. Use 4-5oz for calm ponds, potholes, and flooded timber where there is little current or wind. Go with 6-8oz for rivers, open lakes, and any spot where wind or current could push your spread around. When in doubt, go heavier. Check our sinker weight guide for more detail on sizing.
What is a mushroom style weight? +
A mushroom weight has a flat, rounded bottom that sits on the substrate and grips into mud, sand, and silt. The shape prevents the weight from pulling through soft bottoms the way a narrow weight would. It is the most common style for decoy anchoring. If you are looking at other shapes for fishing applications, check out our bank sinkers or egg sinkers.
Are these weights made from pure lead? +
Yes. They are cast from 100% reclaimed lead here in the USA. Reclaimed lead performs identically to virgin lead in terms of density and durability. For a deeper look at why lead remains the top choice for weights, read our lead vs. tungsten comparison.
Do these come pre-rigged with line? +
No. These ship unrigged so you can set them up exactly how you want. Most hunters prefer this because it lets you choose your own line type, length, and attachment hardware. Our weight guide covers common rigging methods.
How many decoy weights do I need for a full spread? +
One weight per decoy. If you are running a dozen decoys, you need a dozen weights. The 10-packs are the best value for rigging a full spread at once. Browse our full duck decoy weights page to compare sizes and pricing.
Can I use these for fishing instead of decoys? +
The mushroom shape works as a bottom weight for fishing, but these are sized and sold specifically for decoy rigging. For dedicated fishing weights, check out our bank sinkers, pyramid sinkers, or deep drop weights depending on your application.
Is the 10-pack a better deal than buying individually? +
Yes. The 10-packs save you roughly 10-15% per weight compared to individual pricing. For example, 4oz weights are $1.79 each individually but $15.99 for a 10-pack ($1.60 each). If you are rigging more than a few decoys, the bulk option is the way to go. See all our size and pricing options.
Will these work in rocky bottom or gravel? +
Mushroom weights perform best on mud, sand, silt, and vegetation. On hard rocky bottoms they will still hold but can bounce or shift in strong current. For rocky river setups with heavy current, consider going up a size or switching to a pyramid sinker style that digs into gravel.
