Build Your Own Spreader Bars and Dredges

Pre-made spreader bars work, but serious anglers build their own. Custom bar lengths, custom drop spacing, custom teaser placement. Billfisher Sleeve Swivels are the connection point that makes custom builds possible.

Slide the sleeve swivel onto your cable, position it exactly where you want the drop, crimp it in place. The swivel rotates freely so your drops and teasers spin without line twist. Use these for spreader bars, dredge bars, daisy chain connections, and any multi-drop rigging setup. Three sizes cover different cable and wire diameters.

Crimp-On Positioning

Slide onto cable or wire, position at the exact drop location you want, then crimp the sleeve in place. This gives you complete control over drop spacing, which is impossible with fixed-position hardware.

Free-Spinning Swivel

The swivel rotates independently of the sleeve. Your drops and teasers spin freely without twisting up. This keeps your bar or dredge fishing clean and prevents tangles during deployment and retrieval.

Three Sizes for Different Cable

Size 1.6 for lighter cable and wire, 2.3 for mid-weight, 3.5 for heavy dredge cable. Match the sleeve diameter to your cable for a secure crimp that does not slip under load.

How to Build a Spreader Bar with Sleeve Swivels

1. Cut your spreader bar cable to the desired length

2. Slide sleeve swivels onto the cable at planned drop positions

3. Add end connectors and form the bar shape

4. Position each sleeve swivel at the exact spacing you want

5. Crimp each sleeve firmly with a cable crimper

6. Attach drop leaders and teasers to each swivel

What size do I need for spreader bars? +
Depends on your cable diameter. Size 2.3 works for most standard spreader bar cable. Check your cable diameter against the sleeve bore size. See our dredge rigging guide for more details.
Can I use these for dredge builds? +
Yes. Sleeve swivels are the standard connection for custom dredge bar drops. Position each one where you want a squid or teaser, crimp in place, attach your drop leader. Browse our dredge collection.
What crimping tool do I need? +
A standard cable crimper works. Match the crimp size to the sleeve diameter. See our crimping guide for technique.
Will they slide on the cable once crimped? +
Not if crimped properly. Use the correct sleeve size for your cable diameter and crimp firmly. The nickel plate finish grips well. Test each connection with a firm pull before fishing. Browse our terminal tackle.
How many do I need for a spreader bar? +
A standard 36-inch spreader bar uses 5 to 9 drops depending on design. Buy at least 10 (one pack) per bar, with extras for mistakes. See our dredge setup guide.
What other Billfisher rigging hardware do you carry? +
